TO PROVIDE THAT BEGINNING JULY 1, 2007, THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT SHALL CONSIST OF SEVEN MEMBERS APPOINTED FROM THE DISTRICT AT LARGE BY THE GOVERNOR UPON THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION, TO PROVIDE FOR THEIR TERMS OF OFFICE, AND TO REPEAL SECTION 1 OF ACT 632 OF 1980, ACT 577 OF 1982, ACT 798 OF 1988, AND ACT 471 OF 2002 RELATING TO THE ELECTION OR TERMS OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, beginning July 1, 2007, the Board of Trustees of the Williamsburg County School District shall consist of seven members appointed from the district at large by the Governor upon the recommendation of the Williamsburg County Legislative Delegation for terms of four years and until their successors are appointed and qualify, except that of these members first appointed, three members shall be appointed for initial terms of two years each, to be designated by the Governor upon recommendation of the legislative delegation when making the initial appointments. Vacancies in these offices shall be filled for the remainder of the unexpired term in the same manner of original appointment. The terms of office of the present members of the board shall expire on July 1, 2007, at which time their successors appointed in the manner provided herein shall take office.
SECTION 2. Section 1 of Act 632 of 1980, Act 577 of 1982, Act 798 of 1988, and Act 471 of 2002 are repealed.
SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
