VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA EQUESTRIAN TEAM ON ITS OUTSTANDING SEASON AND ITS IMPRESSIVE WIN OF THE VARSITY EQUESTRIAN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND TO HONOR THE TEAM'S EXCEPTIONAL RIDERS, COACHES, AND STAFF.
Whereas, well prepared for the challenge, the University of South Carolina equestrian team crowned its superlative season by capturing the 2007 Varsity Equestrian National Championship title, defeating all comers at the national finals, held at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, from April 18-20, 2007; and
Whereas, championship riding demands individual strength, agility, and skill, as well as team play and good sportsmanship; and
Whereas, using these talents and attributes, Head Coach Boo Duncan, her assistant coaches, and the riders showed fans and foes alike that the Gamecocks' winning of this victory was no stroke of luck; and
Whereas, these tenacious athletes, demonstrating both poise and class, made it their second national championship in three years and added to the sweetness of the occasion by also taking their third consecutive hunt seat national championship, as well as the Western reserve championship; and
Whereas, in addition, the hunt seat team finished the season with a perfect 15-0 record, the only hunt seat team to accomplish this feat in 2007, the Gamecocks were the only school to have both the hunt seat and Western teams advance to the championship round, and twenty-five equestrian Gamecocks earned Most Valuable Player honors throughout the season; and
Whereas, the House of Representatives takes great pleasure in recognizing the young riders of the University of South Carolina equestrian team for leading with excellence both in the classroom and in the saddle and expects to hear of continued great achievements in the years ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the University of South Carolina equestrian team on its outstanding season and its impressive win of the Varsity Equestrian National Championship title, and honor the team's exceptional riders, coaches, and staff.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the president of the University of South Carolina, Dr. Andrew A. Sorensen, and Head Coach Boo Duncan.
