A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND CONGRATULATIONS TO MS. GLORIA D. HALLMAN, OF THE OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY OF STATE, UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT, TO COMMEND HER FOR HER OUTSTANDING SERVICE, AND TO WISH HER MUCH SUCCESS, HEALTH, AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives note that, after thirty-two years of service, Ms. Gloria D. Hallman retired in February 2007 from the Office of the Secretary of State; and

Whereas, she began her public service in 1975 under Secretary of State Oscar F. Thornton, in a filing room surrounded by walls of filing cabinets filled with file cards, sticky carbon paper, stickier manual typewriters, and noisy mimeograph machines; and

Whereas, the work was laborious and often thankless, but her optimistic attitude made her outshine and outlast all those around her; and

Whereas, Gloria Hallman reached retirement in 2006 as the Director of Administration but continued her dedicated service through February 2007. Her historical knowledge of the duties and services of the Office of the Secretary of State is renowned and did not come overnight; it was gained through hard work, experience, and love of new opportunities; and

Whereas, Ms. Hallman forged many close friendships during her years of service, and her charm, hospitality, and poise made her an icon to many appreciative women, a woman of accomplishment to numerous men, and mentor to a multitude of state employees; and

Whereas, in recognition of her well-earned retirement, Secretary of State Mark Hammond honored her with a proclamation celebrating her many years of selfless and exemplary service. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, extend congratulations to Ms. Gloria D. Hallman, of the Office of the Secretary of State, upon the occasion of her retirement, commend her for her outstanding service, and wish her much success, health, and happiness in all her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Ms. Gloria D. Hallman.
