A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR RICHARD S. FISHER, ESQUIRE, OF GREENVILLE, AND EXPRESS THE GRATITUDE OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES FOR HIS COMMITTED SERVICE ON THE JUDICIAL MERIT SELECTION COMMISSION SINCE ITS INCEPTION.

Whereas, in order that the legal matters facing the courts be adjudicated with justice and expedition, it is incumbent upon the General Assembly to elect justices and judges who are known for their integrity, knowledge of the law, skill in applying that law, and promptitude; and

Whereas, for the furtherance of the judicial selection process in the State of South Carolina, the General Assembly has established the Judicial Merit Selection Commission, which is charged with the task of considering the qualifications of candidates for members of the judiciary; and

Whereas, since the inception of the Judicial Merit Selection Commission, Richard S. Fisher, Esquire, a public servant eminently qualified to act as one of the commission's ten appointees, has served with distinction as a dedicated member of that body; and

Whereas, he brings to the commission extensive legal experience, including service as Greenville Technical College's paralegal department head and paralegal instructor, former member of the American Association for Paralegal Education Board of Directors, former member and three-term chairman of the South Carolina Bar's Lawyers Caring About Lawyers Committee, and presenter at local, regional, and national paralegal education conferences; and

Whereas, not just an attorney, Nick Fisher serves his community as a member and former chair of the Greenville Disabilities Foundation and member of the Lake Hartwell Association Legislative Committee. A former member and board chair of the Greenville Association for the Retarded and member and former youth soccer coach for the Greenville YMCA, he has served his church, St. Michael Lutheran, as council member and president of Lutheran Men; and

Whereas, he has selflessly given his time, skills, and leadership capacity to vital service on the Judicial Merit Selection Commission for the benefit of the citizens of South Carolina, to help ensure that our judges and justices are men and women we can trust and rightfully honor; and

Whereas, in recognition of Mr. Fisher's many years of faithful service on the Judicial Merit Selection Commission, the House of Representatives wishes to extend sincere thanks for a job well done and warm wishes for much happiness and fulfillment in all his future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor Richard S. Fisher, Esquire, of Greenville, and express their gratitude for his committed service on the Judicial Merit Selection Commission since its inception.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Richard S. Fisher, Esquire.
