A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF MR. HEATH SUTTON, OF LANCASTER COUNTY, AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Mr. Heath Sutton, of Lancaster County, on April 17, 2007; and

Whereas, Heath Sutton, born June 16, 1919, to the late George Washington Sutton and Annie Elizabeth Hunnicutt, was graduated from Waxhaw High School; and

Whereas, as a young man, Mr. Sutton answered the call of his country to serve in the United States Army during World War II as part of the 75th Division of the 290th Infantry; and

Whereas, he was a true American hero, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge and receiving several medals, including the Bronze Star; and

Whereas, following his military service, Mr. Sutton worked for forty-two years as a brakeman and later a conductor for Seaboard Railroad; and

Whereas, as a part of his committed involvement with the community, Heath Sutton was a member of Belair United Methodist Church, Indian Land Masonic Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star, Lancaster American Legion, Woodmen of the World, and the Indian Land High School Booster Club; and

Whereas, he leaves his beloved wife of nearly sixty-five years, Evelyn Wilson Sutton; son George Russell Sutton and his wife, Mary; son Heath Wilson Sutton; son Joseph Wayne Sutton and his wife, Pat; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, his loyalty and devotion to his family, his friends, his work, and his country were admired by all who knew him and established him as a pillar of the Lancaster County and Indian land communities. He will be sorely missed. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Mr. Heath Sutton, of Lancaster County, and extend the deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Evelyn Wilson Sutton.
