A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO THE ADMINISTRATION, FACULTY, AND STUDENTS OF CHESNEE HIGH SCHOOL ON THE SCHOOL'S RECOGNITION BY THE GRAMMY FOUNDATION AS A 2007 SIGNATURE SCHOOL AWARD RECIPIENT.

Whereas, the GRAMMY Signature Schools program was created in 1998 to recognize top United States public high schools that are making an outstanding commitment to music education during the academic school year; and

Whereas, the selection process for this annual program begins when the GRAMMY Foundation mails notifications to over twenty thousand public high schools from districts large and small, urban, suburban, and rural, requesting information about each school's music program; and

Whereas, applications are reviewed by committees made up of the nation's top music educators and industry professionals, and these committees select one hundred finalists who are asked to submit additional documentation such as recordings of school concerts; and

Whereas, this documentation is then reviewed by an independent screening committee to determine the schools that merit Signature School status; and

Whereas, the 2007 GRAMMY Signature School award was presented to only twenty-two schools nationwide; and

Whereas, the GRAMMY Foundation Signature Schools program includes an Enterprise Award category, which recognizes efforts made by schools that, despite being economically challenged, have created exemplary music programs; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are extraordinarily proud to learn that Chesnee High School has been honored this year as one of the twenty-two GRAMMY Signature Schools and as one of three schools in the nation selected for the GRAMMY Signature Schools Enterprise Award; and

Whereas, the enthusiasm, talent, creativity, and hard work of the students, faculty, and administration of Chesnee High School have through this achievement brought great national honor to their school, their community, and to the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives congratulate the administration, faculty, and students of Chesnee High School on the school's recognition by the GRAMMY Foundation as a 2007 Signature School award recipient.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the principal of Chesnee High School.
