A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND MS. MELINDA BOGGS, SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER AT IVA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN ANDERSON COUNTY, FOR HER COMMITMENT TO PROVIDING QUALITY EDUCATION FOR THE CHILDREN OF SOUTH CAROLINA, AND TO CONGRATULATE HER UPON BEING NAMED 2007 TEACHER OF THE YEAR FOR IVA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

Whereas, it is with distinct pleasure that the South Carolina House of Representatives recognizes educators who approach teaching with passion, creativity, and infectious enthusiasm, along with appropriate academic preparation for their fields; and

Whereas, in the roll call of such South Carolina educators, Ms. Melinda Boggs, special education teacher, stands high among their numbers and richly deserves the honor of being named 2007 Teacher of the Year for Iva Elementary School; and

Whereas, in preparation for her life's work, Ms. Boggs earned a bachelor's degree in music and a master's degree in elementary education, both at Lander University, and she has made emotionally handicapped special education her focus; and

Whereas, having previously taught in Hampton County and at Faith Christian School in Anderson, Ms. Boggs has worked at Iva Elementary since 2002, where she is known as an amazing teacher who makes a scrapbook for each student in her class; and

Whereas, not one to neglect the gifts and skills God has given her, she plays the piano and is music director at Calvary Baptist Church in Anderson; and

Whereas, her classroom provides an environment ripe for learning, where students can not only gain a firm educational foundation but also grow in self-confidence and respect for others under the mentorship of a caring master teacher; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives, with great admiration and appreciation, is pleased to honor this exceptional educator and daughter of South Carolina, Ms. Melinda Boggs, as 2007 Teacher of the Year for Iva Elementary School, and the members join with her colleagues, students, family, and friends in extending best wishes for great success in all her future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, commend Ms. Melinda Boggs, special education teacher at Iva Elementary School in Anderson County, for her commitment to providing quality education for the children of South Carolina, and congratulate her upon being named 2007 Teacher of the Year for Iva Elementary School.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Ms. Melinda Boggs.
