A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE THE RELAY TEAM AND INDIVIDUAL SWIMMER OF THE DORMAN HIGH SCHOOL SWIM TEAM FOR CAPTURING TWO 2007 CLASS AAAA FIRST-PLACE POSITIONS AT THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP COMPETITION IN THE BOYS 200-METER FREESTYLE RELAY AND THE GIRLS 50-METER FREESTYLE.

Whereas, Dorman High School Cavalier swimmers Jay Warner, James Weber, Jacob Suits, and Marcus Elliott placed first in the 2007 Class AAAA boys 200-meter freestyle relay on October 13 at the state championship meet in Rock Hill; and

Whereas, undefeated all season, this four-man relay team earned first place at the state championship for the Cavaliers for two consecutive years, even though they lost two swimmers at graduation in May; and

Whereas, for most eighth graders, earning a position on the high school swim team would be a coveted role, but Lauryl Williams did not rest in her position; she also excelled by going undefeated all season in the freestyle events and was the top point scorer on the team; and

Whereas, Lauryl Williams took first place at the state championship meet in the 50-meter freestyle event, the first swimmer in Dorman High School history to win an individual event at state, and she also set a new school record; and

Whereas, through agility, speed, and economy of strength, the Cavalier swimmers garnered two first-place awards after months of rigorous training and demanding practices, led by their coach Amy Thomson; and

Whereas, the Cavaliers have brought great pride and recognition to their team, their school, and their community through these awards, and the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to have the occasion to recognize such an outstanding group of athletes. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate the relay team and individual swimmer of the Dorman High School swim team for capturing two 2007 Class AAAA first-place positions at the state championship competition in the boys 200-meter freestyle relay and the girls 50-meter freestyle.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to and to Principal Jerry Wyatt and Coach Amy Thomson.
