A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND ALL EMPLOYEES IN COMMUNITY RESIDENTIAL CARE HOMES FOR THEIR EFFORTS ON BEHALF OF SOUTH CAROLINA'S SENIOR AND DISABLED CITIZENS, AND TO DESIGNATE FEBRUARY 20, 2008, AS ASSISTED LIVING DAY IN SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives take pride in the work of South Carolina employees who provide care in residential homes for senior and disabled citizens; and

Whereas, over sixteen thousand South Carolina senior and disabled citizens reside in community residential care homes; and

Whereas, over ten thousand employees in South Carolina provide assisted living services in over four hundred eighty community residential care homes; and

Whereas, South Carolina and the other forty-nine states combined provide high quality assisted living services for approximately one million residents nationally, and assisted living is the fastest growing sector of long term care; and

Whereas, assisted living has one of the top consumer satisfaction ratings among long term care and health care facilities; and

Whereas, Medicaid assisted living programs such as South Carolina's provide state and federal governments with over fifty percent cost savings as compared to institutional care settings for frail senior citizens; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives take satisfaction in the South Carolina employees in community residential care homes who provide quality assistance to those in need of such. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend all employees in community residential care homes for their efforts on behalf of South Carolina's senior and disabled citizens, and designate February 20, 2008, as Assisted Living Day in South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the leadership of the South Carolina Chapter of the Assisted Living Federation of America.
