A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE INITIATIVE OF THE MEMBERS OF THE CAMBRIDGE ACADEMY VARSITY BOWLING TEAM, OF GREENWOOD COUNTY, AND TO CONGRATULATE THE BOWLERS AND THEIR COACH FOR A SUCCESSFUL SEASON AND FOR TAKING THE 2008 SOUTH CAROLINA ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS (SCISA) CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives was pleased to learn that, in the inaugural year of the SCISA varsity bowling championship, Cambridge Academy, in Greenwood County, captured the title; and

Whereas, students of Cambridge Academy led in the formation of a high school bowling league in Greenwood with one other school during the 2006-2007 season; and

Whereas, in the 2007-2008 season, the league expanded to include six teams, and SCISA approved bowling as a varsity sport; and

Whereas, from the first to the second season of play, the Cambridge Academy Cougars improved their individual game averages by forty percent; and

Whereas, Cambridge, a Class A school, competed in matches against other SCISA schools, regardless of size classification; and

Whereas, the matches consisted of the total pin fall of three Baker games. In a Baker game, five bowlers each bowl two frames with the first bowling the first and fifth frames, the second bowling the second and sixth frames, and so on, so that the fifth bowler has the potential to bowl the most frames; and

Whereas, in the first state match, consisting of three such Baker games, the young Cambridge team raised its Baker series average from 360 in the regular season to 445 to defeat West Columbia's Glenforest Bulldogs who scored 372 and Columbia's Heathwood Hall Highlanders who scored 300; and

Whereas, Nick Bachinski, John Isenhower, Brett Kelly, Joshua Kelly, and Jonny Masters bowled for the first Baker game of the title match. Sam Hunley bowled the first position in the final two Baker games while the other four remained in their positions. Also on the team are Evan Gottesman and Bass Willard; and

Whereas, the Cougar's fifth position bowler Jonny Masters closed seven of his possible 12 frames with either a strike or a spare, while Joshua Kelly and John Isenhower each closed four of their six frames to secure the championship; and

Whereas, Coach Lynn Isenhower used her skill, encouragement, and experience to forge a championship team in the first season of a state competition; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives would like to honor the enterprise and success of the Cambridge Academy bowling team. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the initiative of the members of the Cambridge Academy varsity bowling team, of Greenwood County, and congratulate the bowlers and their coach for a successful season and for taking the 2008 South Carolina Association of Independent Schools (SCISA) Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Cambridge Academy Headmaster Donald Frazier and Coach Lynn Isenhower.
