A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE THE STUDENTS, FACULTY, ADMINISTRATION, AND STAFF OF AIKEN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, IN AIKEN COUNTY, UPON RECEIVING THE 2007-2008 PALMETTO'S FINEST AWARD, AND TO COMMEND THEIR DEDICATION TO THE ATTAINMENT OF EXCELLENCE, ALWAYS STRIVING TO ACHIEVE THE FULL MEASURE OF THEIR TALENTS AND ABILITIES.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were pleased to learn that Aiken Elementary School, in Aiken County, recently received the 2007-2008 Carolina First Palmetto's Finest School Award; and

Whereas, the South Carolina Association of School Administrators and Carolina First Bank annually recognize two elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school that have educators, students, parents, and supporters who are responsible for innovative, effective educational programs; and

Whereas, the judges who recommend Palmetto's Finest winners take into account objective factors such as test scores and college admission offers and also consider other sometimes less recognizable factors such as volunteerism; and

Whereas, each applicant school first completes a seventeen page written statement detailing virtually every aspect of the school's operation including staffing, curriculum, programs, resources, and community collaboration; and

Whereas, the applicants are then visited by members of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators' Palmetto's Finest Awards Committee; and

Whereas, after sixteen finalists are selected, each school undergoes a second visit from a different team of committee members, after which a selection meeting is held to determine the four winners; and

Whereas, Principal Sharon Foret Cagle and her dedicated and superbly skilled staff have worked diligently to encourage community and parental support and have provided a host of extra opportunities to guide the students of Aiken Elementary School; and

Whereas, recognizing the importance of a quality education and the ability of its students to learn, the administration, faculty, and surrounding community willingly give of their time above and beyond traditional school hours to achieve their goals; and

Whereas, education at Aiken Elementary School obviously expands the educational horizons of its students in an innovative and effective manner, serving as a shining example for schools throughout the State; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to honor the effort and success of Aiken Elementary School. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate the students, faculty, administration, and staff of Aiken Elementary School, in Aiken County, upon receiving the 2007-2008 Palmetto's Finest Award, and commend their dedication to the attainment of excellence, always striving to achieve the full measure of their talents and abilities.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Sharon Foret Cagle, Principal of Aiken Elementary School.
