VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE WESTGATE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL BOYS SOCCER TEAM FOR A SUCCESSFUL SEASON, AND TO CONGRATULATE THE PLAYERS AND COACHES FOR GARNERING THE 2007 SOUTH CAROLINA ASSOCIATION OF CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were glad to learn that the Westgate Eagles won the state championship soccer title in their division for 2007; and
Whereas, to the delight of their admirers and the dread of their adversaries, Westgate Christian School soccer team had an undefeated season and drew a bye in the quarter finals; and
Whereas, after routing Victory Christian School of North Augusta in a stunning 9-0 triumph for the semi-final game on the road to the championship, the Eagles advanced to defeat New Covenant Christian School in the final game; and
Whereas, on October 27, 2007, the Westgate Christian School Eagles overcame a 2-0 deficit in the first eight minutes to rally past the New Covenant Patriots of Pageland with a 3-2 victory; and
Whereas, with several school records, such as forty-six goals in a single season, senior Will Bethea led the team to its second state championship since 2000; and
Whereas, in a sport that demands speed, control, strength, endurance, and agility, Coaches Bill Bethea and Guy Harris used their athletic skills and experience to forge a winning team; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives congratulate the Westgate soccer team for their victory, and wish them continued success. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Westgate Christian School boys soccer team for a successful season, and congratulate the players and coaches for garnering the 2007 South Carolina Association of Christian Schools Class A State Championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Principal Tony Seiber and Coach Bill Bethea.
