VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE BASKETBALL ACHIEVEMENTS OF JACK LEASURE, AN OUTSTANDING GUARD WITH COASTAL CAROLINA UNIVERSITY WHO CONCLUDED HIS ELIGIBILITY THIS SEASON, AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM FOR REACHING THE ALL-TIME BIG SOUTH RECORD FOR THREE-POINT SHOOTING.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to learn that Jack Leasure has finished a successful basketball career as well as a stellar academic career at Coastal Carolina University; and
Whereas, ranking sixth in the Big South Conference in career points with a total of one thousand eight hundred ninety-three points, he averaged almost seventeen points per game over the four years; and
Whereas, the eighth player in National Conference Athletic Association Division I history to reach four hundred points in shots from the three-point line, Jack Leasure holds the Big South record with four hundred eleven points in three's; and
Whereas, with a total of one hundred twenty-five points from the three-point line in 2006, he holds the Big South and Coastal Carolina's record for three-point shooting in one season; and
Whereas, he was named to the All-Big South Conference team three times, as a member of the First Team in 2006 and 2008 and as a member of the Second Team in 2007, and in 2006 he received an All-American Honorable Mention; and
Whereas, in 2006, Jack Leasure was named the Big South Conference Player of the Year and the Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the first player ever to receive both honors in the same year; and
Whereas, three times he was named the Big South Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the first player ever to earn that honor triply in league history; and
Whereas, in addition to leading the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in points per game, he also leads academically with a 3.82 grade-point average as a history major; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly take great pleasure in acknowledging the accomplishments of the scholar-athlete Jack Leasure, and wish him success in all his endeavors after graduation. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor the basketball achievements of Jack Leasure, an outstanding guard with Coastal Carolina University who concluded his eligibility this season, and congratulate him for reaching the all-time Big South record for three-point shooting.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coastal Carolina University Head Coach Cliff Ellis and Jack Leasure.
