Whereas, in 1972, he answered the call of Boiling Springs Baptist Church in Spartanburg and remained there for twenty-seven years where he ministered faithfully to a growing congregation; and

Whereas, during this time, the church at Boiling Springs maintained a flourishing ministry to thousands of migrants through an area-wide missions program that provided spiritual help, food, clothing, and fellowship for these migrants; and

Whereas, through the International Mission Board of South Carolina, this church also funded and built seven churches in Brazil; and

Whereas, Reverend Hames also cared for the needs of his growing congregation at this time through the building of a new sanctuary, an administrative wing, the Family Life Center in 1978 and purchasing land for the growth of the church; and

Whereas, before he retired in 1999, he laid the plans for the building of a major Sunday school building, atrium area, and dining room, which have since been completed; and

Whereas, after his retirement, he was invited to minister at Inman Mills Baptist Church to a congregation in deep need where he has served joyfully to stabilize and nurture this now growing church and to serve the entire area with food and clothes for the needy for over eight years; and

Whereas, he has served as the moderator of the Baptist associations in York County and North Spartanburg and is a recipient of the Sertoma award for significant and meritorious Service to Mankind and the Order of the Silver Crescent; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are deeply grateful to Reverend Jack E. Hames for his spiritual and humanitarian service to the citizens of South Carolina over a long and distinguished career. Now, therefore,
