A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE HONORABLE AVERY B. WILKERSON, JR., OF LEXINGTON COUNTY, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RECENT APPOINTMENT TO THE SOUTH CAROLINA WORKERS' COMPENSATION COMMISSION.

Whereas, on June 30, 2008, the Honorable Avery B. Wilkerson, Jr., will begin his term as a member of the South Carolina Workers' Compensation Commission following his recent appointment to that distinguished post by the Governor; and

Whereas, born in Augusta, Georgia, Mr. Wilkerson graduated from Newberry College in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in physical education. His wife, Kim, and he are the proud parents of sons Bland and Allen; and

Whereas, elected Mayor of the City of Cayce in 1990, Mr. Wilkerson has since served continuously in that capacity, overseeing an era of strong economic growth and improved quality of life for the city's residents. His impressive list of achievements as mayor include conceiving and developing the Cayce Riverwalk Park, and facilitating the Twelfth Street Extension Project by coordinating federal agencies, the South Carolina Department of Transportation, and Congressional offices; and

Whereas, in addition to his duties as husband, father, and mayor, Mr. Wilkerson serves on numerous professional and civic boards and commissions, including the Greater Columbia Independent Insurance Agents Association, the River Alliance, the Airport High School Foundation, and the Lexington County Development Corporation. He previously served as president of the Municipal Association of South Carolina and the Lexington County Municipal Association, and was the founding chairman of the Lexington County Joint Municipal Water and Sewer Commission; and

Whereas, Mr. Wilkerson will soon embark on a new chapter in his distinguished career in public service as a member of the South Carolina Workers' Compensation Commission, which is comprised of seven commissioners appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate. Mr. Wilkerson will undoubtedly bring to his new duties the integrity and dedication to excellence that has marked his career in public service. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate the Honorable Avery B. Wilkerson, Jr., of Lexington County, on the occasion of his recent appointment to the South Carolina Workers' Compensation Commission.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Honorable Avery B. Wilkerson, Jr.
