A HOUSE RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING WHITNEY SIMONS OF AIKEN COUNTY AS SHE CAPS HER REMARKABLE COLLEGIATE CAREER AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA BY WINNING THE 2008 SOUTH CAROLINA PRESIDENT'S AWARD FOR EXTRAORDINARY TALENT IN ATHLETICS, SCHOLARSHIP, LEADERSHIP, AND SERVICE.

Whereas, Whitney Simons of Aiken County wraps up her extraordinary undergraduate tenure at the University of South Carolina in Columbia with many and diverse laurels; and

Whereas, as a member of the USC women's golf team, she finished her collegiate stint ranked No. 6 in school history with a career average of 77.33; and

Whereas, she was the 2006 Southeastern Conference Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year, secured a spot on the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll all four years since she picked up her clubs for USC, and was tapped as a National Golf Association All-American Scholar three times; and

Whereas, her leadership attributes were instrumental in the Gamecocks' first trip to the NCAA Championship in five years, and in her final year she served as president of the USC Student-Athlete Advisory committee; and

Whereas, finding time and energy also to serve her community in spite of all her other commitments, her unselfish service earned her a place on the 2008 SEC Women's Golf Community Service Team; and

Whereas, this prestigious President's Award honors all four prongs of Whitney Simons' exceptional talent, and brings great pride to her parents, Charles and Elizabeth Simons, and to her other family members and all of her friends. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize Whitney Simons of Aiken County as she caps her remarkable collegiate career at the University of South Carolina by winning the 2008 South Carolina President's Award for extraordinary talent in athletics, scholarship, leadership, and service.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Whitney Simons.
