VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO REQUEST THE GOVERNOR OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO DECLARE BY EXECUTIVE ORDER THAT NO ILLEGAL ALIEN IS ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE ANY SERVICES OR ASSISTANCE PROVIDED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES OR ANY OTHER STATE AGENCY TO THE EXTENT ALLOWED BY LAW.
Whereas, the number of illegal aliens in the United States has reached an epidemic proportion; and
Whereas, the 2000 census estimates that there are approximately eleven million illegal individuals in the United States; and
Whereas, the United States is a highly mobile nation and at any given moment thirty-five thousand illegal individuals are present in South Carolina; and
Whereas, the illegal population is larger than the population of almost one half of our counties in South Carolina; and
Whereas, the barbaric atrocity of September 11, 2001, is still a grim reminder of the vital importance of the security of America's borders; and
Whereas, our system of government is based on laws; and
Whereas, South Carolina has one of the largest percentages of illegal individuals of all states in the country; and
Whereas, these illegal individuals drain the state's valuable resources which should be reserved for those persons legally present in the State and if South Carolina restrained from providing social services to illegal individuals, this would serve as a powerful deterrent to presence of illegal individuals in our State. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate request that the Governor of South Carolina declare by executive order that no illegal alien is eligible to receive any services or assistance provided by the South Carolina Department of Social Services or any other state agency to the extent allowed by law.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Governor of South Carolina and the Director of the Department of Social Services.
