VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE THE ANDERSON SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT ON THE OCCASION OF ITS SEVENTIETH ANNIVERSARY AND TO COMMEND IT FOR PROVIDING OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY.
Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is pleased to learn that the Anderson Soil and Water Conservation District will soon celebrate its seventieth anniversary of providing outstanding service to its community; and
Whereas, the United States Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation Service, under the leadership of Hugh Hammond Bennett, led efforts to enable states to create soil and water conservation districts to help farmers develop and implement responsible soil conservation practices based on the varying needs and conditions faced throughout the nation; and
Whereas, created in August of 1937 as the first soil and water conservation district in South Carolina and the third in the nation, the Anderson Soil and Water Conservation District has faithfully endeavored to promote the prudent conservation of its community's invaluable natural resources and realize the vision of Hugh Hammond Bennett; and
Whereas, much of the Anderson Soil and Water Conservation District's success is attributable to the passionate leadership and diligent efforts of its commissioners, beginning with J. B. Douthit and J. Wade Drake in 1937, and later under the steady hands of T. Ed Garrison, J. M. Horton, A. B. Jackson, G. H. McCarley, W. Hugh McGee, Donald B. McPhail, J. W. Rogers, R. T. Tripp, J. M. Horton, Jr., Tom Garrison III, Freddy C. Major, Nancy McCannon, George Watkins, and Julian Jones. These great public servants tirelessly dedicated their efforts to the task of helping their fellow man realize his own personal responsibilities in conserving precious natural resources for future generations. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize the Anderson Soil and Water Conservation District on the occasion of its seventieth anniversary and commend it for providing outstanding service to the community.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Anderson Soil and Water Conservation District.
