A SENATE RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING THE MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF NATHANIAL DURANT, JR., AND EXPRESSING APPRECIATION FOR HIS FAITHFUL AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO HIS COUNTRY.

Whereas, Nathanial Durant, Jr., is a native of Johnsonville, South Carolina, the eldest son of Israel and Sadie M. Durant; and

Whereas, Nathanial Durant, Jr. is married to Joyce Moody Durant of Marion, and they have three sons and one daughter; and

Whereas, Mr. Durant attended the public schools of Florence County, graduating from Stuckey High School in Johnsonville, and is a graduate of Florence-Darlington College in Machine Shop Technology; and

Whereas, Mr. Durant received a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Francis Marion University and a Master of Business Administration Degree from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri; and

Whereas, Mr. Durant is employed by ESAB Welding & Cutting Systems of Florence, where he serves as Facilities Manager. Mr. Durant has previously served as Industrial Engineer, Manufacturing Project Engineer, and Production Manager; and

Whereas, Mr. Durant is retired from the United States Army with the rank of Sergeant Major after thirty-one years of service to his country. Mr. Durant served four years of his army career in the Army Security Agency, a branch of the National Security Agency, and spent three years of service at the 17th ASA Field Station located in Kassell, West Germany. Mr. Durant faithfully served his country during the Vietnam era, participated in the Panama conflict, Operation Desert Storm and Shield, and participated in the war on terrorism during Operation Iraqi Freedom; and

Whereas, Mr. Durant is a former member of the 132nd and the 133rd Military Police Company of the South Carolina National Guard, in which he held the rank of 1st Sergeant; and

Whereas, Mr. Durant is a member of the Buffalo Soldiers of the 132nd MP Company and is a member of the Veterans Honor Guard located in Florence; and

Whereas, Mr. Durant is a member of St. Luke AME Church in the Salem Community of Johnsonville, where he has served as President of the Junior Steward board, President of the Junior Trustee board, and served as a member of the Senior Trustee and Steward boards. He presently serves on the Senior Trustee board, the finance committee, the senior choir, and the building committee; and

Whereas, Mr. Durant's Masonic affiliations include past Associated Patron of St. Luke Eastern Star Chapter #116, past Master of St. Luke Lodge #171 of Johnsonville, a member of the Heroines of Jericho and Hyman Chapter #32 Holy Royal Arch Masons of Pamplico, past Commander-in-Chief of McDonald Consistory #226, past Potentate of Bejilah Shriners Temple #163 of Marion, and past District Deputy of the Ninth Masonic District of South Carolina. Mr. Durant has served the brothers of the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of South Carolina as Junior Grand Warden, Senior Grand Warden, and is serving in the station of Deputy Grand Master for the Jurisdiction of South Carolina. He is a thirty-three degree Grand Inspector General. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, do recognize the many accomplishments by Nathanial Durant, Jr., during his lifetime, and thank him for his years of outstanding, faithful, and dedicated service to his country.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Nathanial Durant, Jr.
