A SENATE RESOLUTION

IN RECOGNITION AND APPRECIATION OF THE TREMENDOUS TALENT AND WORK OF ARTIST JONATHAN GREEN AND THANKING HIM FOR HIS POWERFUL INSPIRATION TO INDIVIDUALS AND COMMUNITIES THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, THE UNITED STATES, AND THE WORLD.

Whereas, Jonathan Green was born in Gardens Corner, South Carolina in 1955; and

Whereas, Jonathan Green graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1982, and received his honorary doctoral degree from the University of South Carolina; and

Whereas, Jonathan Green currently serves on educational, civic, and museum boards in Florida and South Carolina. He is President/CEO of Jonathan Green Studios, Inc, and the Jonathan Green Art Collection Gallery, LLC in Naples, Florida. Mr. Green is chairman of Jonathan Green Living Designs, LLP in Charleston; and

Whereas, as a result of his tremendous and prolific talent, Mr. Green's work has been embraced by collectors and critics throughout the world. He is committed to promoting cross-cultural arts to be included in mainstream museums throughout the United States and Europe. His work has been used as inspiration for arts, healthcare, civic, education, and reading programs throughout the world; and

Whereas, Mr. Green's paintings are the basis for the project, Off the Wall & Onto the Stage, Dancing the Art of Jonathan Green produced by the Columbia City Ballet of Columbia, South Carolina. This project brings music, dance, and the visual arts together in a powerful return to the elements of classical ballet. It translates vignettes from twenty-two of Green's paintings to the contemporary stage creating a historic artistic alchemy that has recently toured various locations in the South, and continues scheduled performances; and

Whereas, while Mr. Green's appeal and perspective are truly modern, he looks to the familiar images of his ancestral home for the subjects of his paintings, and draws upon his own intimate personal experiences, steeped in the traditions of family, community, and life in the Southern United States. Each of his paintings is a testament to the motivating power of place. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, do recognize and appreciate the tremendous talent and work of artist Jonathan Green and thank him for his powerful inspiration to individuals and communities throughout our State, the United States, and the world.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Jonathan Green.
