TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE HOLLY HILL ACADEMY FOOTBALL TEAM, OF ORANGEBURG COUNTY, FOR ITS OUTSTANDING SEASON AND FOR CAPTURING THE 2007 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION 8-MAN STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND TO HONOR THE TEAM'S EXCEPTIONAL PLAYERS, COACHES, AND STAFF.
Whereas, the Holly Hill Academy football team defeated Laurens Academy 24-18 on November 17, 2007, at Sumter's Wilson Hall School, to capture the 2007 South Carolina Independent School Athletic Association 8-Man State Championship title; and
Whereas, Coach Don Shelley and assistant coaches David Hutson, Danny Hutto, Charles Singletary, and Troy Trotman, with grueling practices, hard work, and determination, built their football program into a championship team; and
Whereas, this crowning victory caps an excellent season for the Raiders, with thirteen wins and no losses; and
Whereas, in further recognition for the team, Chance Shelley was tapped to play in the Shrine Bowl, and Clint Westbury, Corey Shuler, Charles David Shuler, Walter Kinsey, Lanier Cason, Austin Veronee, Blake Armstrong, and Jamie Bull were named SCISAA All-Stars; and
Whereas, the Raiders have brought great pride and recognition to their school and community, and the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize such a wonderful group of young men. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Holly Hill Academy football team, of Orangeburg County, for its outstanding season and for capturing the 2007 South Carolina Independent School Athletic Association 8-Man State Championship title, and honor the team's exceptional players, coaches, and staff.
