A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR BARRY F. BOLEN, OF LEXINGTON COUNTY, FOR THIRTY-SIX YEARS OF DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AS AN EDUCATOR, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT, AND TO WISH HIM SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to learn that Barry F. Bolen has given thirty-six years of dedicated service to the citizens of South Carolina in the education of the children of our State; and

Whereas, Barry Bolen earned a bachelor's degree from Newberry College in 1972 and a master's degree in educational administration from the University of South Carolina in 1973; and

Whereas, he began his career in Sumter School District Two teaching at Ebenezer Junior High School from 1972 to 1979, and for the next six years, he served as an assistant principal first at Hillcrest High School and then at Furman High School; and

Whereas, he became the principal of Ebenezer Junior High School in 1985 and left there in 1988 to take the leadership of R. H. Fulmer Middle School in Lexington County School District Two; and

Whereas, in 1990, Barry Bolen was named principal of Brookland-Cayce High School, where he remained for eight years, until he became the assistant superintendent of the district in 1998; and

Whereas, in 2000, he served for several months as interim superintendent of Lexington County School District Two before being named superintendent, and where he has served for the past eight years; and

Whereas, he is married to his beloved wife Anne Creech Bolen and has four children, Biff, Bryan, Lainey, and Carrie, and he is a member of Mount Hebron United Methodist Church; and

Whereas, he has further served his community as a board member of the Lexington County Development Corporation and the South Carolina Junior Achievement and as a member of the Cayce-West Columbia Rotary Club and the West Metro Chamber of Commerce; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are grateful to Barry Bolen for his years of service to the citizens of South Carolina and wish him health and happiness in his much-deserved retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Barry F. Bolen, of Lexington County, for thirty-six years of distinguished service as an educator, upon the occasion of his retirement, and wish him success and happiness in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Barry F. Bolen.
