A BILL

TO PROVIDE FOR A GENERAL EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT (GED) CERTIFICATE PROGRAM AT GREENVILLE TECHNICAL COLLEGE, PROVIDE THAT GREENVILLE TECHNICAL COLLEGE IS NOT REQUIRED TO MEET THE QUALIFICATIONS DETERMINED BY THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION RELATING TO TEACHERS, FUNDING, OR SCHEDULE, AND PROVIDE FOR FUNDING OF THE PROGRAM.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Notwithstanding another provision of law, Greenville Technical College may offer a general educational development (GED) certificate program. Adult education classes for the GED program must meet and follow the college schedule. Teachers of adult education classes in the Greenville Technical College GED certificate program must meet the requirements of the college. Adult education classes that are part of the GED certificate program at Greenville Technical College must follow the regulations for adult education classes promulgated by the State Board of Education, except that Greenville Technical College is not required to meet the qualifications determined by the State Board of Education relating to teachers, funding, or schedule. Greenville Technical College shall receive funding for the GED certificate program based on the number of students in the program.

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
