A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE MRS. RUTH WOOTEN, OF RICHLAND COUNTY, ON THE OCCASION OF HER NINETY-FIFTH BIRTHDAY, AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MANY MORE YEARS OF HEALTH AND HAPPINESS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are delighted to learn that Mrs. Ruth Wooten will celebrate her ninety-fifth birthday on August 25, 2007; and

Whereas, Ruth Rawlinson Wooten, one of seven daughters born to John and Mattie Rawlinson, entered this world on August 25, 1912, not long after the dawn of the twentieth century, and as that century and the beginnings of the twenty-first century have brought incredible changes and developments to this nation, Mrs. Wooten has been there to witness nearly all of them; and

Whereas, born in Lykesland, now known as Lower Richland, Mrs. Wooten drove a pony cart to Horrel Hill School, and she and two of her sisters were there when a tornado destroyed it. She remembers when Garners Ferry was a dirt road; and

Whereas, she was the beloved wife of the late John Wooten, Sr., the Lord blessing this union with three sons, John, Jr., (Sonny), James (Buddy), now deceased, and C.W. (Bill), as well as nine grandchildren and many great- and great-great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, always making sure "her children" had the best meals possible, she worked for thirty years as a school lunchroom manager. She loved talking with the children as they came through the line and encouraged them to eat the healthy food available; and

Whereas, at her church, Mrs. Wooten continued her work with children as she served in the nursery or helped out in the children's department as needed; and

Whereas, a humble servant of Christ who puts her faith and trust in the Lord, Mrs. Wooten has left this message in her will: "To my children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren: I love each of you with all my heart and pray that we will meet again to live eternally together in heaven. Daddy and I will be waiting for you all. Don't disappoint us. Love, Mom"; and

Whereas, known for her patience and kindness, she has spent her life loving and serving others, her life being a testament to her faith; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives is proud to honor this truly special lady at the celebration of her ninety-fifth birthday and joins with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching this extraordinary milestone. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Mrs. Ruth Wooten, of Richland County, on the occasion of her ninety-fifth birthday, and wish her a joyous birthday celebration and many more years of health and happiness.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Ruth Wooten.
