A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE PERRY MCLEOD, OF RICHLAND COUNTY, UPON RECEIVING A SECOND CONSECUTIVE TIME WARNER TEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARD FOR THE PRODUCTION OF AN EXEMPLARY ORAL HISTORY PROJECT.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the South Carolina House of Representatives honors individuals who exemplify dedication and excellence in inspiring and teaching the youth of our State; and

Whereas, Perry McLeod, of Richland County, will be awarded a second consecutive Time Warner Teacher of the Year award, a prestigious national honor, in a ceremony on June 5, 2007, in Washington, D.C.,along with twenty-five other teachers across the nation; and

Whereas, a beloved Richland District Two History and Social Studies teacher at Richland Northeast High School, Mr. McLeod won the award for an admirable oral history project entitled, "Our Next Greatest Generation", which documented the sacrifices and contributions of the men and women who served in the South Carolina National Guard in Iraq and Afghanistan; and

Whereas, to produce this acclaimed multimedia documentary, Mr. McLeod enlisted his students, in partnership with the South Carolina National Guard, and interviewed more than thirty guard members who told their life stories; and

Whereas, not only did Mr. McLeod and his students preserve the personal narrations of veterans of the significant event of our generation, they also documented history using many media outlets so that this important work can be shared with the community and state. The production is available as DVDs, Quicktime movies, podcasts, the South Carolina Educational Television's United Streaming, and as a permanent display in the South Carolina Military Museum; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for the House of Representatives to congratulate and commend Perry McLeod as the recipient of the Time Warner Cable Teacher of the Year award for his tremendous contributions to his students, school, community, and state in this remarkable and important oral history project. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate Perry McLeod, of Richland County, upon receiving a second consecutive Time Warner Cable Teacher of the Year award for the production of an exemplary oral history project.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Perry McLeod.
