A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE J.L. MANN HIGH SCHOOL BOYS SWIM TEAM ON ITS IMPRESSIVE WIN OF THE 2006 CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND TO HONOR THE SWIMMERS, COACH DARRYN NORTON, AND ASSISTANT COACH PHILLIP CASTON ON AN EXCEPTIONAL SEASON.

Whereas, on October 7, 2006, the J.L. Mann High School swim team concluded its outstanding season by capturing the 2006 Class AAA State Championship title in front of a packed house at the University of South Carolina Natatorium; and

Whereas, excellence in swimming demands individual strength, agility, and skill, as well as team play and good sportsmanship; and

Whereas, using these talents and attributes, Coach Darryn Norton, Assistant Coach Phillip Caston, and the swimmers showed both fans and foes alike that the team's winning of this year's state title was no accident, but rather the payoff for concentrated, consistent hard work and capitalization on strong abilities; and

Whereas, the payoff is all the sweeter because this year's triumph makes it the Patriots' fifth state championship win in the last six years; and

Whereas, in polished style, the Patriots' relay team swam to two state records, the 400Y freestyle in 3:16:20 and the 200Y freestyle in 1:29:71. Lee Groseclose set another state record in the 200Y individual freestyle, swimming it in 1:44:36, Roger Diggelmann won both the 200Y individual medley and the 100Y backstroke, and Bo Farr came in number one in the 100Y butterfly; and

Whereas, the young men of the J.L. Mann High School boys swim team showed great endurance, always remaining sportsmanlike and representing their school and surrounding community admirably; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives take great pleasure in recognizing the young men of the J.L. Mann High School boys swim team for their determination and perseverance in achieving both in the classroom and in swim competition and expect to hear of great accomplishments in the seasons to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and commend the J.L. Mann High School boys swim team on its impressive win of the 2006 Class AAA State Championship title, and honor the swimmers, Coach Darryn Norton, and Assistant Coach Phillip Caston on an exceptional season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the J.L. Mann High School boys swim team and Coach Darryn Norton.
