A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE J.L. MANN HIGH SCHOOL LADY PATRIOTS BASKETBALL TEAM, OF GREENVILLE COUNTY, ON ITS IMPRESSIVE WIN OF THE 2007 CLASS AAA STATE GIRLS BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS AND COACHES ON AN OUTSTANDING SEASON.

Whereas, well prepared for the challenge, the J.L. Mann High School girls basketball team crowned its superlative 24-4 season by capturing the 2007 Class AAA State Girls Basketball Championship title on March 3, 2007, defeating a fine North Charleston High School team 51-45 at Columbia's Colonial Center; and

Whereas, championship play in basketball demands individual strength, agility, and skill, as well as team play and good sportsmanship; and

Whereas, using these talents and attributes, Coach Darah Huffman, assistant coaches Toni Leopard, Lillie Young, and Janét Vicks, and the players showed both fans and foes alike that the team's winning of this victory was no fluke; and

Whereas, this conquest, coming back-to-back with the Lady Patriots' grabbing of last year's state title, proves that consistent championship preparation pays off in consistent championship wins; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives takes great pleasure in recognizing the young women of the J.L. Mann High School Lady Patriots basketball team for leading with excellence both in the classroom and on the basketball court and expects to hear of continued great achievements in the years ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the J.L. Mann High School Lady Patriots basketball team, of Greenville County, on its impressive win of the 2007 Class AAA State Girls Basketball Championship title, and honor the players and coaches on an outstanding season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the J.L. Mann High School Lady Patriots basketball team and coaches Darah Huffman, Toni Leopard, Lillie Young, and Janét Vicks.
