TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE IMPRESSIVE SUCCESS OF HILLCREST HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL COACH LEN AVANT, OF GREENVILLE COUNTY, WHO PRODUCED THE UNDEFEATED 2007 CLASS AAAA GIRLS STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM.
Whereas, after leading her volleyball team to the 2006 Class AAAA State Championship, Coach Len Avant repeated the accomplishment with an undefeated 26-0 record in the 2007 season championship; and
Whereas, in her eleven years as coach at Hillcrest High, Coach Avant has shaped the Lady Rams to win numerous regional and upper state championships by employing her own athletic ability and tireless energy; and
Whereas, Coach Avant has fostered excellence on the court and in the classroom in that all the volleyball teams during her tenure have boasted at least a 3.0 grade-point average; and
Whereas, with these laudable successes, she was named the SC Athletic Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 2006 and has received copious other coaching awards which identify her ability to communicate her skills to her players and to train them for success; and
Whereas, indicative of her further success in forging athleticism, twelve of her former athletes continue to play volleyball at the college level and two more current players have signed letters of intent for next year. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and commend the impressive success of the Hillcrest High School volleyball Coach Len Avant, of Greenville County, who produced the undefeated 2007 Class AAAA Girls State Championship team.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Hillcrest High School Principal Steve Chamness and to Coach Len Avant.
