A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE RUTLEDGE DINGLE, OF SUMTER COUNTY, ON BEING NAMED SECONDARY PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR FOR THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, TO COMMEND HIM FOR HIS THIRTY-FOUR YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO EDUCATION IN THIS GREAT STATE, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS AND FULFILLMENT IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Rutledge Dingle, principal of Sumter High School in Sumter School District 17, has been named 2008 Secondary Principal of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators; and

Whereas, in preparation for his long career as an educator, Mr. Dingle earned a bachelor of arts with a major in history from Presbyterian College and master's and education specialist degrees from the University of South Carolina in Columbia; and

Whereas, he was selected for this honor for, among other things, his extraordinary educational leadership, expertise in resolving complex problems, ability to promote professional development in others, as well as in himself, and for his extensive service in myriad professional and community organizations; and

Whereas, as a coach, on multiple occasions Mr. Dingle was named coach of the year at the state level. Ultimately, he was elected to the Sumter County Athletic Hall of Fame and the South Carolina Track and Cross Country Hall of Fame; and

Whereas, he is a graduate of Leadership Sumter and a member of the Sunrise Rotary Club, where he is a past president, a Rotarian of the Year, and a multiple Paul Harris Fellow. He served as president of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators Secondary Division from 2005 to 2006, as well as overall president of the organization in 2006 and 2007, and in 2001 was named AAAA Division State Principal of the Year. In addition, he has served on the national board of directors for the National Honor Society; and

Whereas, having served at Sumter High School for twenty years, first as a track coach and teacher and later as an administrator, Rutledge Dingle in his eleven years as principal has demonstrated innovative thinking and progressive ideas that have borne much fruit for his school, as with its well-respected International Baccalaureate program for high-achieving students; and

Whereas, Mr. Dingle is a devoted husband to his wife, Melony, a beloved father of three children, and a faithful elder at First Presbyterian Church in Sumter; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives takes great pleasure in recognizing Rutledge Dingle as South Carolina's Secondary Principal of the Year and wishes him well as he competes for the national title, the winner to be announced this summer. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Rutledge Dingle, of Sumter County, on being named Secondary Principal of the Year for the State of South Carolina, commend him for his thirty-four years of dedicated service to education in this great State, and wish him much success and fulfillment in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Rutledge Dingle.
