TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE WILSON HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM OF FLORENCE COUNTY FOR AN IMPRESSIVE SEASON, AND TO CONGRATULATE THE PLAYERS AND COACHES FOR WINNING THE 2007 CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, to the resounding cheers and great excitement of the Tigers' supporters, Wilson High School's football team defeated the Chester Cyclones 14 to 12, completing a 12 and 3 winning season and capturing the 2007 AAA State Championship; and
Whereas, this victory was Wilson High's first South Carolina High School League football championship ever and its first state football title since its undefeated season in 1953; and
Whereas, in the title matchup on December 1, 2007, at Williams-Brice Stadium, the Tigers staked their claim to the AAA State Championship early in the first quarter and never relinquished it; and
Whereas, using their superior passing, refusing to give the Cyclones any big plays, and capitalizing on every turnover, the Wilson High offense and defense performed with great skill and dogged determination to bring home this championship trophy; and
Whereas, in a sport that requires intense teamwork, strength, and mental fortitude, Wilson High School Head Coach, Darryl Page and his dedicated coaching staff employed their own athletic expertise and experience to guide, inspire, and build a championship Tiger football team; and
Whereas, the Wilson High Tigers have brought immense pride and recognition to their school and community in capturing the 2007 Class AAA State Football Championship title. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Wilson High School varsity football team of Florence County for an impressive season, and congratulate the players and coaches for winning the 2007 Class AAA State Championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Wilson High School Principal Gerald Spencer Edwards and Coach Darryl Page.
