A SENATE RESOLUTION

SALUTING THE PICKENS HIGH SCHOOL LADY BLUE FLAME VOLLEYBALL TEAM ON THEIR CONTINUED DOMINANCE OF THE AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, COMMEND THEM ON ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL SEASON FILLED WITH TEAMWORK, AND WISH THEM MUCH LUCK IN FUTURE SEASONS.

Whereas, the Pickens High School Lady Blue Flame volleyball team continued their dominance in AAA by winning an unprecedented twelfth State Volleyball Championship; and

Whereas, the November 4th win is the third consecutive State Championship, with the team winning six in the past seven years, and seven in the past nine years; and

Whereas, their latest victory capped a season full of dedication, practice, and teamwork. The Lady Blue Flame posted a 2006 record of 29-3, winning the Byrnes Tournament, taking the silver at the Border Bash Tournament, and placing second at the Pickens Invitational Tournament; and

Whereas, the team, comprised of seniors Abby McCollum, Stephanie Alexander, Emily Harper, Kendra Abercrombie, Jennifer Spalliero, and Lauren Williams; juniors Chelsea Gambrell, Ashlyn Underhill, Marlie Bryant, and Rebecca Looper; sophomores Kara Murrell, Ashley Campbell, Melle Morgan, Mary Willis, and Jaclyn Williams; and freshmen Cassie Gravely and Kara Morgan; and

Whereas, under the leadership of Head Coach Jennifer Gravely, the Lady Blue Flame volleyball team has accomplished several winning seasons. In acknowledgement of her very successful tenure as coach, she was named High School Sports Report's AAA Volleyball Coach of the Year; and

Whereas, volleyball requires individual strength, agility, and skill, of which the 2006 team was filled, the Lady Blue Flame was able to win a third consecutive state title because of their dedicated teamwork and unwavering commitment to solidarity; and

Whereas, the Lady Blue Flame utilized the teamwork they practiced to overcome the talented Brooklyn-Cayce team for the state title. All three games of the Championship were close for the first fifteen points, but Pickens was able to pull ahead for a win, posting twelve team aces and ninety-one percent efficiency. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, salute the Pickens High School Lady Blue Flame volleyball team on their continued dominance of the AAA State Championship, commend the Blue Flame on another successful season filled with teamwork, and wish them much luck in future seasons.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Head Coach Jennifer Gravely, Principal Marion Lawson, and the entire Lady Blue Flame team.
