A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE WOODRUFF HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY GIRLS SOCCER TEAM, OF SPARTANBURG COUNTY, FOR A SUCCESSFUL SEASON, AND TO CONGRATULATE THE PLAYERS AND COACHES FOR CAPTURING THE 2008 UPPER STATE CLASS AA CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that the Woodruff High School girls soccer team had a winning season and took first place in their regional competition; and

Whereas, on May 12, 2008, the Woodruff Lady Wolverines defeated the Walhalla High School Lady Razorbacks 1 to 0 to win the Upper State Class AA Championship; and

Whereas, for the second straight year, the Lady Wolverines have represented the upper state as the regional champions; and

Whereas, seniors Brenda Diaz, Devyn Harman, Emma Hughes, Nicole Jones, Hannah Kelly, and Jordan Lawson led their teammates to a winning season and to a victory over the Razorbacks; and

Whereas, in a sport that requires strength, speed, and skill, Coach Fernando Gomez and Assistant Coach Fran Thomas, using their own athletic skills and experience, forged a championship team through relentless work and demanding practices; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives commend the talent and hard work of the Woodruff High School girls varsity soccer team and look to hear of future success from this outstanding team. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Woodruff High School girls soccer team, of Spartanburg County, for a successful season, and congratulate the players and coaches for capturing the 2008 Upper State Class AA Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Principal Karen Neal and Coach Fernando Gomez.
