A SENATE RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING DR. WILLIAM SINGLETON, JR., ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS SUPERINTENDENT OF THE JASPER COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT AND EXPRESSING HEARTFELT GRATITUDE FOR HIS LONG AND HONORABLE SERVICE TO PUBLIC EDUCATION IN JASPER COUNTY AND THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, Dr. William Singleton, Jr., completes decades of service to the Jasper County School District as he retires from the position of Superintendent of Schools; and

Whereas, before he assumed the responsibilities of administering the development and maintenance of the district's positive and community-based education program, he participated and built upon numerous and varied administrative experiences in the district; and

Whereas, his service to the district began as director of Adult and Community Education, and his long and distinguished career includes stints as principal of West Hardeeville and, later, Jasper County High Schools, and as the head of Chapter 1 Reading and Mathematics and Vocational Educational programs, the curriculum program, and the entire transportation, food service, and maintenance programs; and

Whereas, his unparalleled administrative experience and his educational preparation, including a doctorate in Educational Administration from South Carolina State University, made him a valuable contributor to the education of Jasper County's students; and

Whereas, he hopes to be, and surely will be, remembered as "having done for the children of Jasper County the best with what I had to work". Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize Dr. William Singleton, Jr., on the occasion of his retirement as Superintendent of the Jasper County School District and express heartfelt gratitude for his long and honorable service to public education in Jasper County and the State of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. William Singleton, Jr.
