VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE JANICE LORRAINE POOLE WOOD AND JACK "BUDDY" HILTON WOOD, JR., OF ANDERSON COUNTY FOR THEIR SACRIFICIAL SERVICE ON BEHALF OF THE FARM BUREAU, AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM ON BEING PRESENTED THE FARM BUREAU'S 2009 DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Janice and Jack "Buddy" Wood were honored with the Farm Bureau's 2009 Distinguished Service Award on December 4, 2009; and
Whereas, presented every year since 1957, the Farm Bureau's Distinguished Service Award is the highest honor bestowed by the Farm Bureau to an individual or couple for outstanding service to agriculture, to the community, and to the organization; and
Whereas, Janice Poole and Buddy Wood met at a church revival, and since then church-centered community life has defined their loving marriage of forty-two years; and
Whereas, Janice had never been on a farm when she met Buddy, who learned to plow before school and care for farm animals at an early age on his family's farm where he and Janice still live; and
Whereas, after studying agricultural economics at Clemson University, Buddy later joined the United States Army Reserves and ran a local Massey-Ferguson dealership and a local service station, but he never relinquished work on the farm; and
Whereas, Janice received a degree in art from Anderson College, and she has worked as a teacher and managed a local shoe store along with finding time to raise their fine daughter Kris who blessed the couple with two wonderful granddaughters; and
Whereas, Jack Wood, Sr., was the Anderson County Farm Bureau president in the early 1970s, and Buddy followed his father's example when he was elected president of the same association in 1985 and served for three years; and
Whereas, spanning twenty-four years, Buddy Wood served as a state director from Anderson County, twenty-two years as a member of the Farm Bureau Marketing Association board and executive committee, and previously received an award recognizing his legislative work both locally and statewide for the Farm Bureau; and
Whereas, Janice began her work in the Farm Bureau as a volunteer on the women's committee in the early 1980s and was named the Piedmont District representative to the State Women's Leadership Committee in 1995; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the years of commitment that Janice and Buddy Wood have given to agriculture, to their community, and to the Farm Bureau in our great State. The Wood's commitment to faith, family, and community serves as a shining example for all South Carolinians. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor and recognize Janice Lorraine Poole Wood and Jack "Buddy" Hilton Wood, Jr., of Anderson County for their sacrificial service on behalf of the Farm Bureau, and congratulate them on being presented the Farm Bureau's 2009 Distinguished Service Award.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. and Mrs. Jack "Buddy" Hilton Wood, Jr.
