VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR AUSTIN SPARKS BOBO OF SPARTANBURG COUNTY, AND TO COMMEND HIM FOR A LIFETIME OF DEVOTED AND COMPASSIONATE SERVICE TO HIS COMMUNITY.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are grateful for the dedicated and lifelong service of Austin Sparks "A. S." Bobo to his community; and
Whereas, a native son and lifelong resident of Roebuck, A. S. Bobo was born on February 4, 1925, and graduated from Roebuck High School in 1941; and
Whereas, he graduated from Clemson College and returned to his hometown where he opened A. S. Bobo General Merchandise and A. S. Bobo Realty; and
Whereas, as a lifetime member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, he served as a deacon and chairman of deacons, church training director for forty years, chairman of the cemetery and building committee, and teacher of the men's Bible study; and
Whereas, A. S. Bobo was a member of the Roebuck Lions Club, from which he received numerous awards through the years for his outstanding contributions, and he served as the president of the Roebuck Improvement Association and was honored with the organization's Citizen of the Year Award in 1999; and
Whereas, he served in the Roebuck Masonic Lodge as a master mason, and he was a founding member of the Roebuck Fire Department where he served for thirty-three years; and
Whereas, he served as assistant chief of the fire department until 1990, and he served as commissioner for thirteen years before retiring in January 2010; and
Whereas, a dedicated and devoted husband, father, and grandfather he provided lasting inspiration and meaningful compassion to all who know him; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are grateful for the significant legacy of the life of Austin Sparks Bobo and esteem him for the pride and dignity he has brought to his community. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor Austin Sparks Bobo, of Spartanburg County, and commend him for a lifetime of devoted and compassionate service to his community.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Austin Sparks Bobo.
