A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE MRS. JO PACE EVANS OF RICHLAND COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HER ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY, AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND CONTINUED HEALTH AND HAPPINESS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are delighted to learn that Mrs. Jo Pace Evans will celebrate her one hundredth birthday on April 30, 2010; and

Whereas, Mrs. Evans was born on April 30, 1910, when the twentieth century was still in its youth, and she has been witness to many of the incredible changes and developments that have come to this nation from that time into the twenty-first century; and

Whereas, a native of Marion, young Jo took her undergraduate degree at Winthrop College and taught school briefly. She then made a name for herself as a favorite employee at Tapp's department store in Columbia, where she worked for many years, into her 80s; and

Whereas, Mrs. Evans, who has lived in her Columbia home since 1953, remains an active member of Shandon Baptist Church and participates in the political process of her city. Now a widow, she has many nieces and nephews who appreciate her enthusiastic involvement in life; and

Whereas, to honor her on her centennial birthday, family and friends will join together in a celebratory luncheon at the Capital City Club in Columbia; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives is proud to honor this truly lovely lady at the celebration of her one hundredth birthday and joins with her legion of friends and well-wishers to congratulate her on reaching this extraordinary milestone. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Mrs. Jo Pace Evans of Richland County on the occasion of her one hundredth birthday, and wish her a joyous birthday celebration and continued health and happiness.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Mrs. Jo Pace Evans.
