A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND PROVIDENCE HOSPITALS AND LEXINGTON MEDICAL CENTER FOR COLLABORATIVELY WORKING TO IMPROVE MEDICAL CARE FOR THE CITIZENS OF THE MIDLANDS OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, Providence Hospitals was founded by the Sisters of Charity in 1938 and is known statewide for its compassionate care; and

Whereas, Providence Heart & Vascular Institute is recognized nationally as a referral center for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cardiovascular disease; and

Whereas, Lexington Medical Center supports a countywide healthcare network which includes a 384-bed medical center, six community medical centers, and the largest extended care facility in South Carolina; and

Whereas, Lexington Medical Center seeks to provide comprehensive cardiac services for its patients, including the ability to provide open heart surgery and therapeutic catheterizations; and

Whereas, Providence Hospitals and Lexington Medical Center have diligently negotiated and executed an agreement under which they will collaboratively work to promote an open heart program at Lexington Medical Center. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate and commend Providence Hospitals and Lexington Medical Center, their leadership, and employees, for forging an agreement to work collaboratively for the betterment of the health and well-being of their patients and the citizens of the Midlands of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Providence Hospitals and Lexington Medical Center.
