A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE MRS. LUCILLE JONES POPE OF GREENWOOD COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HER ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY, AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND CONTINUED HEALTH AND HAPPINESS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are delighted to learn that Mrs. Lucille Jones Pope soon will celebrate her one hundredth birthday; and

Whereas, Mrs. Pope, the second eldest of twelve children, was born in 1910, when the twentieth century was still in its youth, and she has been witness to most of the incredible changes and developments that have come to this nation from that time into the twenty-first century; and

Whereas, married in 1949 to Major Pope, now deceased, she is the mother of a daughter, Patricia Ann Pope-Partlow, and is blessed with the joy of two grandchildren and a great-grandson; and

Whereas, now retired from Greenwood Packing Plant, she is a member of Little Zion AME Church, where she was active in the gospel chorus and was a pulpit aide. Presently, she sings in the senior choir. Formerly also active at her husband's church, this woman of faith has served as a deaconess and member of the missionary society, enjoys Sunday School, and previously sang with the Jones Sisters and Slylights; and

Whereas, to honor her on her centennial birthday, family and friends will join together in a celebratory event to be held Saturday, June 12, 2010, at Morris Chapel Baptist Church in Greenwood; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives is proud to honor this truly lovely lady at the celebration of her one hundredth birthday and joins with her legion of friends and well-wishers to congratulate her on reaching this extraordinary milestone. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Mrs. Lucille Jones Pope of Greenwood County on the occasion of her one hundredth birthday, and wish her a joyous birthday celebration and continued health and happiness.
