To whom was referred a Joint Resolution (S. 289) to allow the Criminal Domestic Violence Study Committee, as established by Act 402 of 2008, additional time to review the criminal domestic violence laws of the State and make recommendations to, etc., respectfully

REPORT:

That they have duly and carefully considered the same and recommend that the same do pass:

A JOINT RESOLUTION

TO ALLOW THE CRIMINAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE STUDY COMMITTEE, AS ESTABLISHED BY ACT 402 OF 2008, ADDITIONAL TIME TO REVIEW THE CRIMINAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE LAWS OF THE STATE AND MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY CONCERNING ANY PROPOSED CHANGES.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Whereas, Act 402 of 2008 established the Criminal Domestic Violence Study Committee to review the criminal domestic violence laws of the State and make recommendations to the General Assembly concerning any proposed changes; and

Whereas, Act 402 of 2008 required that the Criminal Domestic Violence Study Committee make a report of its recommendations to the General Assembly no later than January 31, 2009, at which time the study committee must be dissolved; and

Whereas, the Criminal Domestic Violence Study Committee needs additional time to review the criminal domestic violence laws of the State and make recommendations to the General Assembly concerning any proposed changes. Now, therefore,

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    The Criminal Domestic Violence Study Committee is not dissolved on January 31, 2009.

SECTION    2.    The Criminal Domestic Violence Study Committee may continue to review the criminal domestic violence laws of the State beyond January 31, 2009.

SECTION    3.    The Criminal Domestic Violence Study Committee shall make a report of its recommendations to the General Assembly no later than January 31, 2011, at which time the Criminal Domestic Violence Study Committee must be dissolved.

SECTION    4.    This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
