A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-112-150 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT A PUBLIC INSTITUTION OF HIGHER LEARNING MUST PROVIDE FREE TUITION TO TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS EMPLOYED BY SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN THIS STATE IN ORDER THAT THEY MAY PURSUE GRADUATE DEGREES IN THE FIELDS OF EDUCATION AND SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION, AND TO DEFINE CERTAIN TERMS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Chapter 112, Title 59 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 59-112-150.    Notwithstanding another provision of law, a public institution of higher learning must provide free tuition to teachers and administrators employed by school districts in this State in order that they may pursue graduate degrees in the fields of education and school administration. For the purposes of this section, 'tuition' does not include books and supplies."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
