A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR LUCY GARVIN OF GREENVILLE COUNTY FOR HER EXCEPTIONAL LEADERSHIP AS PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES TENNIS ASSOCIATION AND FOR HER MANY YEARS OF SERVICE AS A TENNIS VOLUNTEER.

Whereas, it is with great pride that the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina pause to commend those South Carolinians who have given tirelessly of themselves in great benefit to their neighbors and surrounding communities; and

Whereas, Lucy Garvin of Greer certainly stands among their number, as she has devoted thirty-five years of her life in service as a tennis volunteer; and

Whereas, she has served at the local, state, and national level, most recently leading the United States Tennis Association as president; and

Whereas, as the third female president and the first from South Carolina, she ably leads the organization, often putting in far more hours than she would at a full-time job and overseeing its budget of more than two hundred fifty thousand dollars; and

Whereas, Lucy will remain president of the United States Tennis Association until December 2010, and the organization will acknowledge her many years of service at a special event held in her honor on October 22, 2010, in Greenville. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor Lucy Garvin of Greenville County for her exceptional leadership as president of the United States Tennis Association and for her many years of service as a tennis volunteer.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Lucy Garvin.
