VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE UPON THE DEATH OF DELMER RAY "PHIL" PHILLIPPI OF JASPER COUNTY AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Delmer Ray "Phil" Phillippi of Jasper County on August 1, 2011, at the venerable age of eighty-five; and
Whereas, Phil Phillippi, a resident of Ridgeland, was born the son of Joseph and Lettie Ann Phillippi in Mountain City, Tennessee, on October 1, 1925; and
Whereas, having retired as a U.S. Marine Corps staff sergeant with twenty-one years of service, Mr. Phillippi was a decorated veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. Prior to joining the U.S. Marines, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1946 and participated in the invasion of Normandy as a member of the 1st Special Service Force Unit; and
Whereas, a man of faith, he was a member of Coosawhatchie Baptist Church. His varied interests included serving as a grand marshal for the Gopher Hill Parade and raising Sicilian burros and numerous other animal species, a reflection of his love for animals. In addition, Phil Phillippi was an avid coon hunter; and
Whereas, Mr. Phillippi leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Karen Cleland Phillippi; a son, Dr. Keith N. Phillippi; a daughter, Allison Pace; six grandchildren, Olivia Pace, Tyler Pace, Monica Pace, Christian Phillippi, Keilee Phillippi, and Chandler Phillippi; and a host of other relatives and friends. He will be missed. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Delmer Ray "Phil" Phillippi of Jasper County and extend the deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Karen Cleland Phillippi for the family.
