A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR THE REVEREND MALACHI LEE DUNCAN, A NATIVE OF LEE COUNTY, FOR HIS NEARLY FOUR DECADES OF GOSPEL MINISTRY AND TO WISH HIM GOD'S RICHEST BLESSINGS AS HE CONTINUES TO SERVE THE LORD.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the South Carolina Senate honors those individuals who give tirelessly of themselves to nurture the souls of men; and

Whereas, the Reverend Malachi Lee Duncan, a native of Lee County, stands among their number as an outstanding minister of the Gospel, one much admired by clerical colleagues, laymen, and the surrounding community alike; and

Whereas, born to the Reverend Henry Duncan and Livan Holloman Duncan, the young Malachi was nurtured in the faith at Apostolic Faith Church in New York City, as well as at Spring Hill United Methodist Church and Pinegrove AME Church in Sumter County; and

Whereas, in preparation for his life's work, he attended Allen University in Columbia and Morris College in Sumter. He holds a bachelor's degree in theology and is retired from DuPont; and

Whereas, having ministered in Newberry, Manning, and Columbia districts of his denomination, Reverend Duncan has served as a pastor for nearly four decades, four of these years as presiding elder over the Newberry District. He presently serves as the presiding elder of the Classic Charleston District; and

Whereas, Malachi Duncan considers it one of the crowning achievements of his life that he was able to persuade his beloved Laura to become his wife. They are the proud parents of two children; and

Whereas, noted as a humble, courageous man of Christian character, one of whom it truly may be said, "Well done, good and faithful servant," Reverend Duncan has demonstrated to others how to be "steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord"; and

Whereas, the Senate, cognizant of his many years of spiritual nourishment of the people of South Carolina, expresses its grateful thanks to Reverend Duncan and wishes him God's best as he continues to run the race the Lord has set before him. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, honor the Reverend Malachi Lee Duncan, a native of Lee County, for his nearly four decades of Gospel ministry and wish him God's richest blessings as he continues to serve the Lord.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to the Reverend Malachi Lee Duncan.
