A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR DR. STEPHEN LOMAX OF GREENVILLE COUNTY, ORGANIZER OF THE NEW LIFE IN CHRIST MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH OF FOUNTAIN INN, UPON THE SIXTH-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE CHURCH'S FOUNDING TO THE GLORY OF GOD.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Dr. Stephen Lomax of Greenville County six years ago successfully organized, by the grace of God, the New Life in Christ Missionary Baptist Church of Fountain Inn and has been ministering to the spiritual well-being of his congregation since that time; and

Whereas, in preparation for his pastoral and church planting ministry, Dr. Lomax earned his bachelor's degree at the University of South Carolina at Spartanburg, a master of divinity at Erskine College, and a doctor of ministry at Erskine Theological Seminary. He continued his studies at several institutions, such as Mercer University in Atlanta, Georgia; and

Whereas, for years a part-time pastor, he served as an administrator with Southern Bell while pastoring until 1990, when he became a full-time minister of the Gospel; and

Whereas, among his numerous professional activities are service as associate chaplain at Greenville Memorial Hospital and dean of the Congress of Christian Education, the latter post bringing with it responsibility for the curriculum of more than thirty-two churches; and

Whereas, because he firmly believes a man should be actively involved in his community and state, Dr. Lomax, having been appointed by the Governor, served from 2001 to 2006 on the South Carolina Juvenile Probation and Parole Board. In 2006, he was appointed by the Governor to serve on the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners as a medical disciplinary member; and

Whereas, the congregation of the New Life in Christ Missionary Baptist Church of Fountain Inn, to honor Dr. Lomax's organizing work for the church, will hold a sixth-year appreciation banquet at First Presbyterian Church of Fountain Inn on Saturday, March 19, 2011; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are grateful for the years of devoted service and spiritual guidance that Dr. Stephen Lomax has given to his church, his community, and his state and are pleased to add their voices to the well-deserved encomiums rendered to Dr. Lomax for his fine work. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Dr. Stephen Lomax of Greenville County, organizer of the New Life in Christ Missionary Baptist Church of Fountain Inn, upon the sixth-year anniversary of the church's founding to the glory of God.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Dr. Stephen Lomax.
