A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND GEORGE E. MILLER OF BEAUFORT COUNTY FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED COMMUNITY SERVICE, ESPECIALLY FOR HIS FIFTEEN YEARS OF SERVICE WITH THE AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL PROGRAM.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives honor individuals who freely give of their time and resources for the good of others; and

Whereas, George E. Miller of Beaufort County, an exemplary volunteer worker for many years in his community, has contributed untold hours of valuable volunteer service to the citizens of Beaufort County and South Carolina, and is thereby worthy of recognition; and

Whereas, born in Fairmount, Indiana, in 1936, Mr. Miller attended school in his hometown and played baseball at every opportunity; and

Whereas, he then joined the United States Marine Corps and, after basic training and engineering school, he served his country in many different fields during a distinguished career. He also played "fast pitch" baseball for the Marine Corps; and

Whereas, while serving as a Marine, Mr. Miller received the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one star, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, Combined Action Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Good Conduct Medal with four stars, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and many letters of appreciation. He retired from the Marines in 1979; and

Whereas, enjoying baseball and golf year-round, George Miller played baseball for the Beaufort County Adult League. He also coached and volunteered for the Beaufort County Youth League; and

Whereas, through his local American Legion Post, he has been a key figure in the American Legion baseball program for the past fifteen years and has fulfilled these duties with great commitment and enthusiasm; and

Whereas, a man of faith, he serves his God, as well as his community, as a member of Praise Assembly Church; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives recognize that the success of the State of South Carolina, the strength of its communities, and the vitality of American society as a whole depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of individuals like George E. Miller, who use their talents and resources to serve others. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend George E. Miller of Beaufort County for his many years of dedicated community service, especially for his fifteen years of service with the American Legion baseball program.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to George E. Miller.
