A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE KRISILA FOSTER OF SPARTANBURG COUNTY UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT, TO COMMEND HER FOR HER MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AS AN EDUCATOR, AND TO WISH HER MUCH HAPPINESS AND FULFILLMENT IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the South Carolina House of Representatives honors those individuals who give tirelessly of themselves to the welfare of this great State's most important legacy, its children; and

Whereas, Spartanburg County's Krisila Foster, retiring after nearly three fruitful decades as a classroom teacher, stands among their number as an outstanding public benefactor, one much admired in her role as both educator and community leader; and

Whereas, the young Krisila received her early teacher training at Converse College, finishing with a bachelor's degree and later a master of music education degree. Since that time, she has completed many hours of additional graduate work at the University of South Carolina and Converse College and in 2003 earned National Board Certification; and

Whereas, as an eager second-year music teacher in the mid 1980s, this Walnut Grove native began work at Spartanburg School District Two with an assignment at what was then known as Boiling Springs Junior High. In 2012, at what is now Boiling Springs Middle School, Krisila Foster will conclude an honored public school teaching career of nearly thirty years and embark on a new chapter in her vocation, teaching at Spartanburg Christian Academy; and

Whereas, long acknowledged as a master teacher, Krisila Foster received public recognition of that mastery when she was named 2002-2003 Junior High and District Two Teacher of the Year. In addition, she has been named a Spartanburg County Outstanding Woman of Achievement and an Outstanding Young Woman of America; and

Whereas, her exceptional choral programs and contributions to choral music have received their full meed of praise, as well. In the spring of last year, her Boiling Springs eighth-grade chorus competed in the 2011 Music in the Parks National Choral Competition in Orlando, Florida. Competing against schools from Connecticut to Florida, her sixty-three students received three trophies: first place, men's chorus; second place, women's chorus; and first place and superior rating, mixed chorus; and

Whereas, always seeking ways to serve, Mrs. Foster has not limited herself to fostering children in the classroom. She has many passions, but the list is led by God and doing His work, family, and music; and

Whereas, cognizant of her excellence and dedication as an educator, the House of Representatives takes great pleasure in saluting Krisila Foster, who, having set the bar of achievement high in her profession, will be remembered with affection and gratitude by colleagues, students, parents, and legislative friends for years to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Krisila Foster of Spartanburg County upon the occasion of her retirement, commend her for her many years of dedicated service as an educator, and wish her much happiness and fulfillment in all her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Krisila Foster.
