A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE THE PALMETTO PRIDEWAY PROGRAM AND ITS PARTNERS, WHO TOGETHER HAVE HELPED TO REDUCE LITTER BY FIFTY-NINE PERCENT IN SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, PalmettoPride, a legislative initiative, created the Palmetto Prideway program to address the problem of litter on South Carolina interstates and highways; and

Whereas, Palmetto Prideway was created in partnership with the South Carolina Department of Corrections and South Carolina Department of Transportation because volunteers are not allowed to clean up on South Carolina interstates due to federal regulation; and

Whereas, littering is against the law, is a violation against nature, and detracts from economic development; and

Whereas, Palmetto Prideway gives individuals and businesses the opportunity to sponsor sections of South Carolina interstates and highways to be cleaned twice a month or more by the South Carolina Department of Corrections; and

Whereas, recognizing the impact that litter has on economic development and on the environment, Palmetto Prideway partners have taken a proactive stand against litter in our State; and

Whereas, the Senate joins with PalmettoPride in expressing gratitude to all the Prideway partners in South Carolina for their support of PalmettoPride and of our efforts to change the environmental landscape in South Carolina; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are grateful for the successful efforts of all Palmetto Prideway partners in helping to keep South Carolina clean and beautiful. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize the Palmetto Prideway program and its partners, who together have helped to reduce litter by fifty-nine percent in South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Palmetto Prideway.
