A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-26-35 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT, BEGINNING WITH SCHOOL YEAR 2013-2014, THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY ANNUALLY SHALL ESTABLISH THE STANDARDS TO BE USED FOR THE EVALUATION OF TEACHERS IN THE K-12 PUBLIC SCHOOLS OF THIS STATE FOR THE PURPOSES OF EMPLOYMENT OR CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT AND FOR THE DETERMINATION OF OR INCREASES IN COMPENSATION.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Chapter 26, Title 59 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 59-26-35.    Notwithstanding any other provision of law, beginning with school year 2013-2014, the General Assembly annually shall establish the standards to be used for the evaluation of teachers in the K-12 public schools of this State for the purposes of employment or continued employment and for the determination of or increases in compensation. Effective with the beginning of school year 2013-2014, the present standards now provided by law, including those contained in this chapter, or by regulation of the Department of Education, no longer apply."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
