A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR ROSE ELLA GRANT DAVIS FOR HER YEARS OF SIGNIFICANT SERVICE TO THE VETERANS ADMINISTRATION.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciate the outstanding contributions that Rose Ella Grant Davis has made in the lives of veterans through her volunteer work; and

Whereas, born in Bowman the daughter of the late Reverend Elijah Grant, Sr., and the late Alfear Keller-Grant, she moved to Charleston at an early age with her parents where she grew up in Tabernacle Fourth Baptist Church; and

Whereas, she attended Burke High School from the tenth grade through the twelfth grade, and later graduated from Andrew B. Murray High School in downtown Charleston; and

Whereas, after earning a bachelor's in social science from Charleston Southern University, Rose Davis completed a dual master's in management and computer resource information management from Webster University; and

Whereas, she served at the United States Naval Regional Medical Center; the Naval Shipyard; in the United States Air Force; which included work at the Pentagon; and for the United States Department of State in various clerical positions; and

Whereas, Ms. Davis served as a merchandizing assistant for J. C. Penney's Department Store in Charleston for five years and as an adjunct professor at Central Carolina Technical College in Sumter; and

Whereas, currently as a doctoral candidate through Walden University with emphasis in emergency disaster evacuations, she resides in Mount Pleasant; and

Whereas, a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Ms. Davis finds time to volunteer in her community with the Emancipation Proclamation Committee, the Democratic Party, the NAACP, South Carolina Coalition of Voter Participation, and the Justice Ministry; she is an appointed member for the Trident Regional Education Advisory Center and a past Fall Fellow for Organizing for America; and

Whereas, she has devoted three hundred fifty-five hours of volunteer service at the Ralph A. Johnson Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Charleston, fifty of which were spent on Voluntary Services fundraisers and other programs and the rest as a voter registration designee assisting veterans and their families in registering to vote; and

Whereas, she is a recent graduate from the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training, and she recently volunteered as Principle for a Day at Jennie Moore Elementary School in the Charleston County School District; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciate the dedicated and sacrificial contributions that Rose Davis has made to her community and to the Palmetto State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Rose Ella Grant Davis for her years of significant service to the Veterans Administration.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Rose Ella Grant Davis.
