A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR CHARLES R. "RUSS" WOOD, KNOWN TO HIS BROADCAST FANS AS "RUSS T. FENDER," AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM FOR TWENTY-FIVE YEARS OF OUTSTANDING BROADCASTING IN THE ORANGEBURG COMMUNITY.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Russ Wood, the celebrated Orangeburg radio host known as Russ T. Fender, is celebrating a quarter of a century of broadcasting in the Orangeburg area; and

Whereas, a native of Orangeburg, he graduated from Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School and served his country with pride in the United States Army; and

Whereas, in February of 1988 when he began working for the Key Market Radio's Wiggle 102.9 FM, Russ Wood embarked on his life-long dream of hosting a radio program; and

Whereas, from his beginnings on a single FM station in Orangeburg, his voice is now heard in the Palmetto State throughout the Midlands, PeeDee, and Lowcountry, and now with the advent of Internet streaming, he has a worldwide audience; and

Whereas, Russ Wood has received numerous awards from the South Carolina Broadcast Association with a total of seventeen trophies to date for his work ranging from commercial script writing to radio production and on-air performance; and

Whereas, for four years, he and his co-host, Haley Aull Gulley, have hosted "The Ride with Russ and Haley" for a large listening audience on WGFG 105.3 FM Cat Country; and

Whereas, his persona, Russ T. Fender, is also heard daily on WQKI-FM, WWBD Bad Dog 94.7 FM, and WFRK-FM and other stations under the auspices of Sumter-based Miller Communications; and

Whereas, actively committed to the Orangeburg community, he has served as the master of ceremonies and a performer for talent showcases and charity events and has performed onstage with local community theatre groups; and

Whereas, locally he is a member and participant in such organizations as the Calhoun Players, Orangeburg Part Time Players, the Chamber of Commerce, Orangeburg County Animal Shelter, Orangeburg County Young Professionals, Toys for Tots, the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, the American Lung Association, the South Carolina Kidney Association, the March of Dimes, Orangeburg Newcomers Club, and the Downtown Orangeburg Revitalization Association; and

Whereas, together with his beloved wife, Stacey Yon Wood, he has reared a fine daughter, Abigale Grace Wood; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the service and entertainment that Russ Wood has provided in the greater Orangeburg community and look to hear of his continued accomplishment in the future. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Charles R. "Russ" Wood, known to his broadcast fans as "Russ T. Fender," and congratulate him for twenty-five years of outstanding broadcasting in the Orangeburg community.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Charles R. "Russ" Wood, broadcast personality "Russ T. Fender."
